500,000+ miles of cycling

For me cycling is not just a sport but a passion, my father first introduced me to cycling at the age of 12 and since then cycling has been my life not only in a leisure capacity but on a professional basis as well. Riding with the worlds best at professional level takes determination and focus, I have never looked back and the 500,000+ miles of cycling accumulated experience at professional-world tour and leisure we can now pass on to you – for the most professional bike fit possible.

Working in my local bike shop

From the beginning – working in my local bike shop, Dooleys Cycles of Paisley, as a teenager I soon became the top ranked junior road cyclist in Scotland representing Britain at world championship level which catapulted me into a professional cycling career – riding for the top ranked amateur and pro teams in Italy and the UK.

The Italian Job

I was selected by the Scottish national cycling team for the first of my Commonwealth games events at the age of 19. After finishing 8th in the road race won by England’s Paul Curran, people began to take notice of my potential & subsequently I was invited to ride for Italy’s second biggest amateur team GS Bottegonne, near Florence. The team was then headed by the great Italian sprinter Mario Cipollini.

Six Scottish road titles later and a professional contract with Banana/Falcon and Foremost/Karrimor was to follow on my career path in cycling, with my last race being the Commonwealth games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998.

MASSI, RALEIGH and RIDLEY

After hanging up my wheels in Professional cycling I then put my knowledge to good use in the bicycle industry working for many of the top brands in the world including bicycle manufacturers MASSI, RALEIGH and RIDLEY respectively.

  • MASSI SPAIN – 4 YEARS (product development & sales)
  • RALEIGH UK – 6 YEARS (product development & sales)

Wind tunnel at Glasgow University

Tutored by Ridley on how rider position is critical to performance at any level we then spent many hours in the wind tunnel at Glasgow University working with time trialists and triathletes alike focusing on improving aerodynamic drag and efficiency. We are now one of the leading bicycle aerodynamicists in the UK.

Please see Cycling Weekly video – made in collaboration with VisualBikeFit.com and Planet X Bikes – on how your bicycle position effects how much drag you produce.

The VisualBikeFit Concept

VisualBikeFit was conceived, having had the idea for a totally bespoke bike fitting service with a no fuss approach; we wanted to make bike fitting a great experience for every customer, but I wanted to offer more so the “we come to you” idea made sense and we made our business model for a mobile bike fitting service, working outside normal office hours and also weekends making VisualBikeFit a consumer focused company.
